20th May, 2005: Nearly two-thirds of the small business owners generating $200,000 in yearly revenue will take a break from their daily work schedule this summer according to a survey conducted by OPEN from American Express 2005 Semi-Annual Monitor.

This result is the same as reported in 2004 and 2003. Majority of the owners plan to take at least a week off from their day-to-day work schedule.

However, there is a decrease in the number of small business owners who plan to check in with their business at least once a day while holidaying. A few of them will try to link their vacation with business.

Those who plan to go on a vacation do not intend to keep themselves informed on the day-to-day activities.

But business anxieties will however worry them. It is estimated that a little less than half the population on vacation will be concerned with the business while they are away on a pleasure trip. The other important issue of concern is the growing threat to business security.

Other sources of business anxiety include a missed business opportunity, staff judgment calls, equipment and operational breakdown. The cure to all these problems is to stay in touch with business confidants while the owners are holidaying.
